Upper Cretaceous (Campanian) larger foraminifera assemblages, microfacies and sequence stratigraphy of Pučišća formation (Brač Island, Croatia)
The Brač Island represents a small part of the large Adriatic/Dinaric carbonate platform which persisted from Upper Triassic to the Middle Eocene, and reached its maximum extension during the Cretaceous. The Brač Upper Cretaceous limestones can be lithostratigraphically subdivided into six formations. The Pučišća fomation comprise seven microfacies types based on sedimentary structures and foraminiferal assemblage composition.MF types range from assemblages dominated by hyaline foraminifera to assemblages dominated by various taxa of imperforate foraminifera. The time related changes in the composition of particular foraminiferal assemblages are interpreted as being the consequences of both eustatic sea level changes and regional tectonics.
