What fraction of pupils really reach the stage of formal thinker in physics?
School physics programme in our constructivist variant gives a lot of attention to situations which are favourable for faster transition from concrete to formal thinker in Piagetian sense. Problem posing situations are often drafted in such a way that in the process of searching for solution there is a need for the use of mental processes which are characteristic of formal thinkers: isolating and controlling variables, combinatorial, correlational, proportional and probabilistic thinking etc. In this report the real situations from school practice will be shown and discussed. It turns out that the constructivist approach shows superior results in comparison with the traditional one.
