Genetic difference of some sheep breeds in the Republic of Croatia
Aboout 20 sheep breeds have been raised in the Republic of Croatia, out of which a half belongs to the group of original breeds. During a history, our original breeds were under various influences of foreign breeds, particulary Merino sheep from neighbouring countries. The influence of Merino was particurlarly strong during the 18th and 19th century. In areas close to the Adriatic coast and no some islands, various sheep population have been growth today, which appeared in a similar way: by improving the autochtonous, local Pramenka with Merino rams. Today, a question of genetic differences of these populations in rightly asked. That is why the aim of this research was to determinedifferences between Pag, Krk and Dubrovnik sheep, by certain molecular genetic analysis. Fromm 40 blood samples of each breed, the genome DNA was isolated, whose regions were then multiplied by PCR method using specific molecular markers. PCR products were analysed by SSCP method on a polyacrylamide gel, by which difference between individuals of certain breedswere determined. The first results indicate the existence of genetic differences between analysedbreeds. The final conclusion of existence of differences between mentioned breeds will be brought after analyses of sequences carried by gene analyser ABI 310.
