Histopathological changes in the gill of the water snail Amphimelania holandri Fer. (Gastropoda, Prosobranchia) exposed to phenol.
A lot has been written about the effects of phenol on marine and freshwater life but not many experiments deal with histopatological changes, espewcially in invertebrates. It is known that absorption of phenol by aquatic species presumably occurs through the skin or gills. THerefore, the aim of our study was to determine the normal gill structure and the possible histopathological changes induced by phenol intoxication on the gill of freshwater snail Amphimelania holandri Fer.
