Interaction of interbranch connections between ports and access railway lines in the economic development

With the aim of expanding previous knowledge about the interaction between different traffic modes, the work analyses the necessary interbranch connectivity focusing on the operation of ports and their access railway lines, i.e. co-operation with railway traffic (sub)system and vice versa. The influence on the overall economy is studied based on using comparative advantages of the railways in relation to other modes of traffic, mainly when maximally short and maximally efficient connecting of Croatia and the EU countries is considered. Theoretical considerations of possible approaches to interbranch connectivity indicate its direct influence on the global development of economy by connecting the coastal and inland continental parts of Croatia with the rest of Europe and vice versa. It is indicated that by different methodologies of defining the gravitational scope i.e. zone of every single port, its geotraffic position and competitiveness can be evaluated regarding the access roads in the hinterland, primarily the railway lines, which may in turn provide basis for evaluating the influence of traffic of the goods flows on the development of a region, and even a wider environment, indicate the level of economy development in the region and provide comparison with the level of development of other regions in the Republic of Croatia or in Europe. The starting parameters are the estimate of the operation and business efficiency in ports as well as the quality of their connections with the gravitating centres in the hinterland. Here, a simplified example of the methodology used for evaluating corridors and determining the scope of the gravitation zone by means of the geographic-geometry method, which is based on determining the distances from the ports to certain centres in Croatia and Europe, and vice versa, indicates the significance and role played by ports in railway connections between the Adriatic and Central Europe. There is a need for further theoretical considerations and research of the interbranch connectivity of railways and ports i.e. railway traffic (sub)system and the Adriatic port (sub)system in the overall Croatian traffic system, which should consider the existing and find possible future railway connections of the ports in the Croatian part of the Adriatic coast with the continental parts, and all this with the aim of permanently improving the technology and organisation of the railway, i.e. overall traffic system in the context of influencing the economic development.

U cilju proširivanja dosadašnjih spoznaja o interaktivnom djelovanju raznih prometnih grana u radu se analizira potrebito međugransko povezivanje s naglaskom na rad hrvatskih jadranskih luka i njezinih priključnih pruga odnosno suradnje s željezničkim prometnim (pod)sustavom i obrnuto. Ciljano se istražuje utjecaj na razvitak sveukupnog gospodarstva temeljenom na korištenju komparativnih prednosti željeznice u odnosu na ostale grane prometa, poglavito kada je riječ o što kraćem i efikasnijem povezivanju Hrvatske s zemljama EU. U teorijskom razmatranju mogućih pristupa međugranskog povezivanja ukazuje se na njezin izravan utjecaj na globalan razvoj gospodarstva povezivanjem obalnih i unutarnjih kontinentalnih dijelova Hrvatske s ostalim dijelovima Europe i obrnuto. Ukazuje se da primjenom različitih metodologija utvrđivanja gravitacijskog dosega odnosno područja svake pojedine luke, njezin se geoprometni položaj i konkurentna sposobnost može valorizirati s obzirom na priključne prometnice u zaleđu, prvenstveno željezničke pruge, njezine kvalitativne i kvantitativne elemente, na osnovu kojih se pak može dati procjena utjecaja prometa robnih tokova na razvoj re
