The Accuracy of Wave Pattern Resistance Determination from Wave Measurements in Longitudinal Cuts
This paper deals with an experimental and theoretical investigation into the wave pattern resistance component of a Wigley trimaran with symmetric outriggers in calm water. Wave pattern measurements in six longitudinal cuts have been conducted for two series of experiments and wave pattern resistance coefficients have been experimentally determined by applying the Landweber, Hogben and Baba methods, with a model free to heave and pitch. Keeping the available record length fixed and satisfying the criterion of the maximum number of modes which can be seen in the measured waveform, the process of verification has been carried out by applying all three methods and different positions of the record with respect to the trimaran configuration stern. Since the measurements have been carried out twice for this configuration, the estimation of the measurement uncertainty has been included in the analysis. The reconstruction of the waveform has been performed in the verification process.
