Strategic choice and the strenght of moral argument

The strategic choice made by enterprises is motivated by need for survival and development. Enterprises in transition, confronted with collapse of the old value system and with emerging of a new one, (re)act also opportunistically, using illegal or immoral ways, leading into crime. Some findings from investigations made in Slovenia on trust, business moral and entrepreneurial crime: Rather hidden character of illegal actions and crime makes their detection and approval difficult. Ethics audit, consulting, early warnings, argument mapping can prevent, detect and approve such behaviour. The power of argument depends on authentic primary source material and its disclosure. Individual protagonists with knowledge and competencies (“ white collar crime” ) are capable of mishandling the others in a more subtle way. They are driven by pragmatic and more subtle motives (e.g. unsatisfied expectations). Increased attention to the unethical and criminal behaviour is evident from greater concern about business ethics policy and tools, business moral (as criterion of trustworthiness), ethical investor relations, and trust (as intangible asset). The successful strategic choice needs moral considerations and power of moral argument gained by commitment, support of qualitative evidence, disclosure, co-operation, and dialogue.
