Effects of etching on the soft magnetic properties of nanocrystalline Fe_73.5Cu_1Nb_3Si_17.5B_7 ribbon

The influence of surface etching on soft magnetic properties of Fe_73.5Cu_1Nb_3Si_15.5B_7 alloy at different stages of successive isochronal anneal (350°C<=T_a<=600°C) has been investigated. The goal of this study was the enhancement of soft magnetic properties of nanocrystalized Fe_73.5Cu_1Nb_3Si_15.5B_7 samples. Small decrease of H_c (<=10%) is the only effect of the surface etching before formation of Fe_3Si nanocrystals (T_a<=400°C). However, after formation of suitable structure of Fe_3Si nanocrystals (minimal H_c) the etched samples shows lower H_c than that the nonetched sample for frequencies f>=40 Hz. Only at low frequencies (where the static core loss dominates) the unetched sample has lower H_c than the etched one. Accordingly, doft magnetic properties of nanocrstalline Fe_73.5Cu_1Nb_3Si_15.5B_7 alloys can be imroved at power and elevated frequencies by the suitable surface treatment.
