Moving Land Art Objects on the Edge of Canal Danube-Sava
Danube-Sava Canal has a very long history. The possibility of shortening the river traffic flow has been noticed in the last century, already. Due to the dimensions of this action, its realization has still not occurred. The canal route has been defined through planning and building codes. Such a vast penetration into the space can not be performed without major landscape changes. The canal cuts and carves terrain, and besides, along the canal a construction of various embankments is needed. Working upon landscape plan we have tried to follow several principles but always had in mind that a total conservation of the landscape was impossible. We could have decided to try to imitate the surrounding landscape by planting the original plants, but that would have not leaded us to authentic landscape. Therefore we have decided to show the technical and constructive nature of the grasp and try to modulate it. We tried to add an attraction to such a large grasp, a grasp that would, somehow, add a new dimension to the existing landscape through the visual values of new-constructed structures. The new construction would start to serve as new guidelines through the environment, bringing new symbolic values reflected upon the historic heritage of the space. Modeling of such construction was treated as some kind of Land Art through which new dimensions and scales will add new utilization, and new beauty, to the existing landscape.
