Development of turbulence at transition from laminar into a turbulent boundary layer on a free rotating disc

This paper presents the experimental investigation of the phenomena during transition of the laminar boundary layer to turbulent one on a free rotating disc.The investigation is based on experimental measurement of pressure changes in boundary with aim to analyze the structure of boundary layer by comparing the ratio between turbulent and vortex energy in signal power spectra, the critical and transient Reynolds numbers, the vortex numbers and their dependence on Reynolds number, and on the distance from the rotating disc. As consequence of processes of generation and decay of vortexes the three different phases during transition from laminar to turbulent boundary layer are recognized.
