Analysis of the Recent Solution for Falling Film and Bubble Type Absorption

The basic difference between absorption and compression systems is a possibility of waste heat utilization as a driving energy, instead of high valuable mechanical work utilization. In absorption systems the standard mechanical compressor is substituted by the thermal compressor that employs physical properties of two component mixtures in accomplishment of the cooling effect. An important component in the thermal machine is absorber. Due to inevitable irrevirsibilities that occur in absorption process, careful designed and optimized absorber can have significant effect on the overall efficiency of absorption machines. The two most common absorption modes are: falling film and bubble type absorption. Furthermore the two mostly applied working fluid pairs are water-lithium bromide and ammonia-water. Both absorption models give potentially high heat and mass transfer rates whose realization depends on absorber design. Due to high specific heat transfer rate and consequently small dimensions, modern absorber design is based on plate heat exchanger geometry. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the recent achievements in the field of absorber development. Also, the physical phenomena analysis for the characteristic absorption models was carried out. Finally, references for the further research on the bubble absorption within plate heat exchangers was considered.
