Croatian model of health care for pregnant women with diabetes
Diabetes in pregnancy represents a great problem for the mother and for the child. Adverse reproductive control in pregnant women with pregestational diabetes (diabetes mellitus type 1 and type 2) and gestational diabetes is associated with an increased risk of spontaneous abortions, preeclampsia, stillbirth, children with congenital malformations, asphyctic and macrosomic newborns and neonatal death. With good metabolic control (fasting blood glucose level <5 mmol/L, two hour postprandial blood glucose level <7.8 mmol/L and the level of HbA1c <7%) the frequency of complications will be the same as in healthy population of pregnant women.
