EFFICIENCY OF DIFFERENT RESOLUTION METHODS FOR SIMULTANEOUS SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF METAL IONS IN SAMPLES OF TEXTILE FIBRES

Selectivity and sensitivity are the major problems to be solved in monitoring of industrial production processes, control of raw material, chemicals used during the process and in quality control of final product. Quantification of intermediates, or especially undesirable components, in every step of the industrial production is important for economical reasons and for ecologically cleaner production. The presence of copper and cobalt traces in processes of textile industry are extremely undesirable due to damaging the cotton and wool fabric and reducing the efficiency of bleaching, turning the shade of dyes duller, and diminishing fastness to light and washing. If present in dyeliqour Cu an Co tend to concentrate in the damaged tips of wool, which are then coloured differently from the remainder of the fibers. The harmful action of heavy metals on human health is known and it is necessary to supervise the content of heavy metals in dyestuffs, dyed textile material and in wastewater. The sources of copper and cobalt could be groundwater, technical grade chemicals, fittings in machines or steam pipes, and concentration in cotton, flax and wool structure from the soil during the growth of the plants and sheep. In this work several resolution methods were applied to overlapped spectrophotometric signal (global signal) of copper and cobalt complexes with PAR in order to determine the concentration of cobalt and copper in mixture. The advantages and disadvantages of each resolution method will be discussed and recommendation of the method most suitable for resolution of individual signals will be given.
