The meaning of differences: working values of Croatian women

Women's participation in the business sector is a growing phenomenon worldwide. Although a woman in entrepreneurship and management has been a subject of popular interest from some time, the questions and approaches have changed. The vast amount of literature on women and management values orientations has endorsed different strategies for remedying gender inequalities in the workplace, but as many studies dealing with gender issues, they provide us with variety of contradictory views. A three part methodology was adopted to address the term of reference. Following the literature reviews and development of hypotheses, we present the research methodology and study findings. In order to illustrate the working values of Croatian women, a survey was undertaken. A guiding idea is to reveal why women are experiencing the workplace both similarly and differently than men. A discrepancy of views are mostly due to women’ ; s perception of working values in terms of career advancement and other issues important for the long term career success of women. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine factors facilitating and hindering working values and application between career advancement and Croatian women under a dynamic capabilities framework. Specifically, the influence of managerial receptivity and skill levels, environmental factors, and capabilities for successful implementation are assessed. We conclude with a discussion of the results, their implications, a review of the limitations and directions for future research.
