Croatian academic and special libary Web sites: an analysis of content
The purpose of this study was to provide an introductory analysis of the content of the Web sites of academic and special libraries in Croatia to determine what types of resources and information is included, whether or not information is organized and accessible, and to what extent academic and special libraries are using the Web to promote their digital collections. A method for analysing and describing the content of library Web sites was designed. Over one hundred forty library web sites were evaluated, and data were collected assessing background information, authority, navigation, basic library information, and an update date. Comparisons were made based on library type, collection size and number of pages in each site. Results showed that most sites provided information on hours, contacting the library, collections, and services. There was much less information provided on digital collections: rare books, instructional material, reference literature etc. A core common content that exists across academic and special library Web sites independent of the parent institution was defined.
