Heterogenous groups in the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment of Croatian war veterans
Group psychotherapy has been viewed as the most efficacious modality of treatment for war veterans with post-traumatic ego-organization. The PTSD diagnosis was made separately by two psychiatrists according to DSM-IV criteria. The group was conducted by single therapist . It had 10 members: six men (Croatian war veterans) and four women (partners of war veterans, but not related to the men in the group). In the beginning the group was regressive, with agression as leading subject. Male members communicated only among themselves, resisting group therapist's attempts to involve female members . Women gradually took transference position of their husbands.
