Experimental development of Croatian model of group psychotherapy of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Lymbic and serotonergic system are linked to symptoms of intensified arousal in PTSD. No unique diagnostic-therapeutic model based on defined neurobiological indicators exists, in order to make psychotherapeutical intervention focused on symptoms and clinical remission yet neurobiologically verified. Structured clinical psychiatrical interview DSM-IV, CAPS-DESNOS, Mississipi-PTSD, STAI is used. Initial studies on over 60 patients indicate changes in regional blood flow in basal ganglia area, hypocampal atrophy and changes in levels of serotonine metabolites in blood and urine. Genetical study connects polymorphism of tryptophan-hydroxilase gene with impulsive behavioral tendencies. After group psychotherapy focused on verified dominant simptoms we expect improvement in measured parameters
