Ecological requirements regarding the materials used in the furniture production
It has been evident for quite a long time that the shortage of natural materials may only be addressed by developing synthetic polymer materials, and recycling deposited waste materials. However, development of the petrochemical industry has generated initiatives to decrease toxicity of synthetic materials and to restrict concentration of noxious substances ; the restrictions have gradually approached the concentrations in natural substances. An ever-increasing use of recycled materials has increased the danger of bringing noxious chemical components into the new material structure. According to the European standards (EN) and the European Union (EU) Directives, a particular attention is to be paid to noxious chemical components in order to protect human health. Thus Croatian furniture industry will have to pay special attention to the ecological quality of the materials used.
