Leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata in postmenopausal woman
Leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata(LPD)is a rare condition, marked by the development of multiple subperitoneal smooth muscle nodules throughout the abdominal and pelvic cavities in women of reproductive age. Most cases are associated with increase in estrogens, e.g.pregnancy, estrinizing granulosa cell neoplasms, or oral contraceptive use and have been described in premenopausal women. Results. Here we report a new case of the LPD in an 82 year old, obese postmenopausal woman.Interestingly, hysterectomy and removal of adnexa were performed for uterine leiomyomata with no evidence of endometriosis 40 years ago. Conclusion.Multiple nodules were found on the surfaces of large and small bowel, urinary bladder and right broad ligament and all of them presented with a benign histological picture.
