The invisible component of the triple system AC Velorum

AC vel has two B-type eclipsing components, and the presence of a third component is indicated by: 1) light time effect, and 2) the need for about ten per cent thrid light in the photometric solutions. However, no direct evidence of the third component is seen in the spectra. The wide orbit indicated by the light time effect is derived and provides a surprisingly large lower limit to the mass of the third component. This suggests that the third component may itself be multiple. In addition, we present here the first results of the analysis of high-dispersion spectrowcopy, including the disentangling of the spectra of the eclipsing close binary and the identification of the contribution of the third component to the Balmer hydrogen lines.
