Teaching Public Health and Human Rights in a Warfare Affected Area

Although many schools are now developing broader curricula than the traditional focus on epidemiology and diseases, and preparing themselves for the new challenges ahead, the public health sector consists to a large extent5 of professionals that have no specific training in public health and human rights. War and civil strife are one of the issues that are almost completely neglected within the medical and public health education and at the same time have been largely responsible for the increasing number of deaths, mental and physical impairments. political peace-building activities that are taking place in Bosnia-Herzegovina the last four years are not sufficient to reach long-term stability. There is also need for structural peace building i.e. an economic, military, and social infrastructure that provides concrete and realistic avenues through which a new peace system might express itself by creating behaviour, institutions and concerted actions that support the embodiment of a peace culture. The public health and human rights curriculum in Mostar is seen as a significanz element of social peace building.
