The states of residual stresses caused by fusion welding or welding and relieving were compared in the article. Residual stresses were experimentally studied. The relieving was performed by post weld heat treatement and vibrating during welding. Stresses were measured by the hole drilling strain gauge method. Weld joints were made using two high productive welding processes: SAW and T.I.M.E. The lowest residual stresses are found in joints that were post weld heat-treated. The residual stresses in the weld joints that were vibrated during welding were also lower that residual stresses in the as-welded conditions.
