Application of Genetic Algorithm in the Optimization of TLC Separation

An optimisation method based on application of genetic algorithm in optimization of TLC separation is described. The optimisation procedure was tested in optimisation of the reverse-phase HPTLC separation of six pesticides in mixture and satisfactory optimal results were obtained. The performances of genetic algorithm were tested regarding the following parameters: number of generation, population size, mutation probability and crossover probability.Three separation criterions (MRF, R* and R**) were examined as a fitness function. A comparative study between genetic algorithm and simplex method was performed.
