The proportions of CD5A+, CD45RA+, CD45RC+, wCD21+ cells in pigs vaccinated with a classical swine fever subunit (E2) vaccine

According to the obtained results it is obvious that the applied vaccines cause neither significant leucopoenia nor evident changes in the proportions of lymphocytes in vaccinated pigs. The increase of the percentage of CD5a+ T cells in vaccinated pigs at the end of the trial, indicate that this cell subset is involved in the immune response induced by the vaccinal antigen applied. Higher and homogenous values of CD45RA+, CD45RC+ and wCD21+ in control pigs could be explained by individual differences. The lack of significant changes in the proportion of CD45RA+ naive cells as well as CD45RC+ memory cells in vaccinated pigs could be ascribed to the lower percentage of these cells found in this group of pigs on day 0. The increase of specific antibodies after vaccination confirmed the immunogenicity of the subunit vaccine even though the increase of B cells was not recorded. An interesting finding is the variation in the percentage of the wCD21+ B cells observed in the vaccinated pigs, which may be due to explained by simultaneous down-regulation or up-regulation of T-B cell cooperation.
