European Citizenship - Women Closer or Further from the Union
Most of feminist authors argue that the citizenship approach opens a gender-sensitive perspective on the transition process in Eastern and Central Europe. Gender equality is an important feature for social citizenship. Improving access to employment, establishing wage equality, and equal employment and affirmative action policies could improve the situation. Until relatively recently, it is a rights discourse which has been more dominant. Women have struggled to achieve equal rights with men in the civil, political and social spheres as crucial to their achievement of full citizenship.
