Koncentracija radonovih potomaka u nekim hrvatskim toplicama
Radon has been used as a basic therapeutic agent for different balneological treatments in the form of a bath or inhalation. Radon for therapy comes from underground sources of mineral radioactive water (for bathing) or is used for treatments in the form of collective inhalations inside the cave or the old post-uranium gallery. Uranium ore remnants which are not exploitable make a natural radon source in the gallery air. Thus, in the air of the treatment rooms radon occurs together with its radioactive decay products. The personel engaged in treatments are occupationally exposed to radioactive aerosols. Radon-daughter exposures of workers have been determined in some croatian spas. The potential alpha energy concentration of radon-decay products was estimated on the basis of the alpha activity measurement of radioactive aerosols collected on filters during the process of air sampling. We used the method of Scott for the estimation of alpha potential energy concentration. Results of the determination of potential energy concentrations and those of exposure value were expressed in WL and WLM units, respectively.
