Fenton and Fenton "like" processes for coloured wastewater treatment
Due to the environmental protection and a current law regulations wastewater from dye production and dyehouses must be treated before discharge to the recipient. In this study Fenton and Fenton "like" processes were applied for decolourization and degradation of synthetic dye wastewater containing C.I. Reactive Blue 49 (RB 49). Optimal molar ratio of Fenton reagent Fe(II)/H2O2 as well as Fe(III)/H2O2 and Fe°/H2O2 was established on the basis of dye concentration and total organic carbon (TOC) measurements. Influence of zeolite on process efficiency was also investigated. Experiments were conducted at optimal molal ratio of Fenton and Fenton "like" reagent in the presence of HY and NH4ZSM5 zeolite. Dye concentration, TOC and AOX parameter (Adsorbable organic halide) were determined in wastewater samples prior and after treatment. On the basis of these results, expressed as percentage of removal, decolourization and mineralization rates were evaulated and efficiency of different processes was compared. It has been found that Fe°/H2O2/HY process at molar ratio 1 : 20 was the most efficient with 98.4% dye removal and 84.5 % TOC removal.
