COTTONISATION OF FLAX FIBRES UNDER VARIABLE CONDITIONS
In most cases, flax is processed with the effort to obtain very fine fibres from coarse technical fibres. All the methods for obtaining fine flax fibres from technical ones are based on the same process: the cotonization, which consists of partial or total removal of pectin binding the elementary flax fibre cells into technical fibres. In this paper the investigation results of cotonization of technical flax are presented. The processing of cotonization was realised in various treatment: hydrothermic, enzimatic and ultrasound. The indicator of the processing efficiency is defined by the quantity of removed pectin and by specifying the degree of cottonisation of technical flax fibre before and after treatments. The investigation results indicate not only an ecologically favorable cotonization but also positive effects of the ultrasound during cotonization.
