Cochlear implant and rehabilitation program of SUVAG ZAGREB
Emerging from Professor Guberina's vision, VT rehabilitation has from its very beginning strived to mainstream hearing impaired children with their hearing peers. Since integration implies developed listening and speech, for deaf children this ment long lasting and hard working rehabilitation. Cochlear implants enabled us not only to considerably shorten rehabilitation, but also to set much higher goals. The ultimate implantation benefit depends on many factors among which age at implantation plays significant role, therefore the possibility to determine the exact level of hearing loss as early as possible is cruical. Early screening beeing our reality thanks to two humanitarian projects in Croatia, SUVAG rehabilitation program was easily reorganized into a more suitable model for the under 2's. Our experience so far proved good results in mainstreaming those children, as well as in the older group whose mainstreaming percentage also increased.
