Predictors of Electoral Abstention in Croatia
Aim of this research was to determine demographic, psychological and social predictors of abstention during parliamentary elections in Croatia. Data were gathered in pre-election survey in 2003 on Croatian representative sample (N=1225). In comparison to those who vote, abstinents are mostly older, less educated, less interested in politics, and less satisfied with political and social situation in the country. According to selected predictors, abstinents are not homogenous category. Within them, two different groups can be identified: one that generally avoids elections, and other that is motivated by current electoral offer and evaluation of political and social situation in the country.
