Effekte des Paramunitats-inducers Baypamun auf den Cortisollevel abgesetzter und transportierter Ferkel
Weaning and transport represent a stress factors in the intensive pig breeding production, whereas a paraimmunisation of piglets, a few days prior to such stressful events, could lower these negative effects. The purpose of this investigation was to establish whether a two - time treatment of piglets by a paraimmunisation inducer, obtained from a parapoxivirus in sheep (Baypamun® ; ; , liquid, Bayer AG, Germany), a few days prior to weaning and transfer, could affect the plasma cortisol concentration by a stimulation of non-specific immunity, in comparison to the piglets weaned and transported in the standard way and thus reduce the stress in young animals. The investigation comprised 60 pigs of Swedish Landrace from intensive breeding, divided in three equal groups. The piglets were weaned at 24 days of age and transported to the nursery. The control group was transported immediately after weaning. Second group was administered 2 ml of Baypamun® ; ; each, injected intramuscularly, on the 5th and the 3rd day before weaning and transport. The third group was treated in the same way, but the preparation was given on the 3re and the 1st day before weaning and transport. Control group and second group were transported during 95 minutes, third group during 140 minutes. Immediately after transport 5 ml of blood was taken, from the orbital sinus, of each piglet. The cortisol level in the blood plasma was established by the radio immunochemical (RIA) method, and the data were compared by the one direction variance analysis. The highest plasma cortisol concentration was established in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0, 05) when compared with the both groups treated by Baypamun® ; ; . The different duration of transport had no effect on the piglets, regardless whether treated by Baypamun® ; ; or not. Thus we can conclude that the treatment of piglets with Baypamun® ; ; prior to weaning and transport does affect the lowering of the plasma cortisol level. In such way we assume that the preparation could favourably influence the stress impact caused by the change of the environment and, accordingly, influence the animal welfare.
