Perceived social support in relation to social networks in early adolescence
The aim of this investigation was to examine the relationship between social networks (family number, number of good friends, time spend with family and friends, number of faculty activities, frequency of go out with friends) and perceived social support (instrumental support, support for self-esteem and belonging and acceptance) in early adolescence. The sample comprised 319 girls and 333 boys with a mean age of twenty years and six months. The results showed that number of good friends as one indicator of social network significantly contributed to higher perceived social support. The results are discussed in relation to importance of social networks for perceived social support in early adolescence.
