PIBF inhibits perforin relase from NK cells
The majority of decidual NK cells contains PIBF and at the same time high amounts of perforin. Since perforin mediates NK activity, low decidual NK activity might be due to inhibition of perforin liberation. We have shown that a high percentage of decidual lymphocytes is double positive for CD56 and PIBF. PIBF inhibits NK activity of peripheral lymphocytes. This is due to a block of perforin release by activated NK cells thus might at least partly explain the low NK activity of decidual cells in spite of their high perforin content.
