Factors influencing particle size distribution of oak sawdust developed during circular sawing
Particle size distribution of dust generated during mechanical wood processing is determined by type and properties of processed material and by machining parameters (cutting direction, cutting speed, feed speed, tool edge bluntness and others). This paper presents granulometric analysis of sawdust generated in processing oak-wood with double blade circular saw at three different feed speeds: 23, 33 and 43 m/min. Particle size distributions have shown slightly more small particles when sawing at 23 m/min feed speed than at 33 and 43 m/min. Increase of feed speed has resulted in the decrease of fraction of particle sizes smaller than 0.5 mm. At feed speed of 23 m/min, fractions up to 0.5 mm show approximately 2.5 % more particles than at feed speed of 43 m/min. The influence of feed speed used in the experiment on particle size distribution of sawdust has not been huge but surely significant.
