The Excessive Water Conformance for Production Operations in Croatia
Reservoir performance problems resulting from excessive water production, especially considering the small size oil fields could be characterized by delayed hydrocarbon production, reduced ultimate recovery factor, as well as higher operating expenses. The subject of this paper is to point out the technical problems associated with high water cut production at a middle size and marginal oil fields located in Croatia. The main up to date conformance techniques are described and analyzed to select the most applicable methods of water conformance. The chemical techniques, employing polymer gel systems (based on DPR – disproportionate permeability reduction effect) and mechanical conformance (DOWS – downhole oil/water separation) are exposed, using the field examples. Keeping in mind that: « ; ; ; prevention is better than cure» ; ; ; , the recommendations how to effectively resolve the excessive water production problems of middle size or small fields are wrapped up in attempt of avoiding a danger of premature abandonment of marginal fields.
