Contact allergy in psoriasis
It is suggested that contact allergy is common in palmo-plantar psoriasis and much less other types of psoriasis without palmoplantar manifestation. By patch testing hypersensitivity to contact allergens was established in 38% psoriatic patients with palmo-plantar lesions compare to 5% in psoriatics without palmoplantar lesions. The most frequent positive allergens were potassium dichromate, cobalt-chloride, wood tars, carba-mix, thimerosal, nickel sulphate, and fragrance mix. Hypersensitivity to contact allergens in palmoplantar psoriasis can be considered as provocative factor in the pathogenesis of palmoplantar psoriasis.
