Difficulties in Synonym Judgments in Aphasic Patients
The aim of this study was to find out difficulties in synonym judgements in aphasics, by use of "Psycholinguistic Assessment of Language Processing in Aphasia"(PALPA, Kay, Lesser & Cotheart, 1992), in fact, according to the two tasks which included auditory and written synonym judgements. Both task included concrete or high imageability synonym and abstract or low imageability synonyms and their control pairs. All tasks were translated from English into Croatian language and also adjusted to Croatian language. 11 aphasics were examined (8 men and 3 women), aged 42-77 years, 8 of them with Broca's aphasia and 3 of them with Wernicke's aphasia. Therefore, the goal was to establish the differences according to the type of aphasia.Expected differences in final results were statistically confirmed by the type of aphasia, auditory and written synonym judgements, and also concrete and abstract synonym judgements.
