Load Distribution on Spur Involute Gears with Pitch Errors
Geometrically ideal gear has all teeth with identical involute profiles, which are equally spaced around the circumference. However, manufacturing errors are always present in meshing gears. Pitch errors (also called tooth spacing errors) in particular are important because of their influence on load distribution on mating teeth, and their effect on vibration and noise. We provide the expressions for calculating the load distribution on mating teeth with pitch errors along the line of action for spur involute low contact ratio gears with a transverse contact ratio 1 <ea < 2, as well as for high contact ratio gears with a transverse contact ratio 2 <ea < 3. This calculation of load distribution increases the accuracy of the subsequent calculation of tooth root stresses and contact stresses on tooth flank.
