Largest speleological objects of Croatian karst and their basic geomorphological characteristics
About 50 % of Croatia's territory bas characteristics of karst relief. In that area more than 8, 000 speleological objects bave been found and researched. Between two basic kinds of speleological objects in Croatia (caves and pits), pits prevail in about 70 % cases. The data about length, Le. about depth of speleological object were taken as size parameters. There were presented five speleological objects with the largest length of underground channels (ranging from 6, 710 m to 16, 396 m), and five deepest speleological objects (ranging from 576 m to 1, 392 m) in the Croatian karst. Their basic geomorphological characteristic were analysed and compared: location, depth, length, kind, morphological type and basic conditions of speleogenesis. The size parameters were compared to the same parameters of the largest objects in the world. A review of the most perspective areas for further speleological research in Croatia was made on the basis of the above given facts.
