Inlet channel geometry influence to the diesel engine characteristics
The paper presents the influence of the inlet channel geometry modifications to the swirl intensity and in combination with fuel injectors to the diesel engine characteristics. Swirl ratio value and inlet valve flow restriction factor were measured by using special testing device. Three various inlet channel geometries with various swirl intensity generation were tested and resulting engine characteristics were compared. Three various fuel injectors were tested together with various inlet channel geometries. For the selected tested combinations of inlet channel and fuel injector the NOx emissions were examined using the numerical simulations based on two zone phenomenological model description and extended Zeldovich reactions. In the conclusions some practical recommendations are derived from the experimental results.
