NEW DIACETYLENIC DEHYDROBENZOANNULENE DERIVATIVES
Cyclic dimers (1) and trimers (2) of 1, 2-diethynylbenzenes were prepared by multi-step synthesis, from diiodoarenes via 1, 2-diethynylbenzenes and oxidative coupling. According to our knowledge, compound 1c is the first example of Eglinton-Galbraith dimer derivative with electron donor and acceptor groups (push-pull macrocycle). These compounds can be produced in useful quantities and are of interest as precursors to novel conjugated organic polymers. To better understand polymerisation of these compounds, temperature dependent infrared measurements were performed. Dimeric compounds 1 show an infrared band at 480 cm-1 which is characteristic for octadehydrodibenzo[12]annulene ring and corresponds to central ring deformation [1]. Decomposition of 1 can be observed by measuring intensity of this band. The identification and thermal behaviour of 1 and 2 will be discussed.
