Regional Developmental Disproportions in the Republic of Croatia
Regionalism has long history and tradition on the Croatian territory. Current regional character is based on the professional and political criterion. Thus, the Croatian territory is divided in two supraregionas: Panonian and Mediterranean, four macro regionas: Slavonian, Central Croatian, Primorje-Lika and dalmatian and in 21 county regional units. In economic terms, counties do have certain regional characteristic, but not in its entirety, becauser in Croatia, high degree of decentralization is still present in the economic decision-making process. In terms of development, the Republic of Croatia is not a homogeneous entity with equaly developed areas. In this paper we explore relative development of Croatian counties by measuring developmental deviations of certain counties from Croatian average. The goal is to define a starting point for the conduct of developmental policy of the Republic of Croatia.
