Chromatographic Determination of Pesticides in the Soils of the Neretva River Valley
In this paper quantitative determination of atrazine and fenarimol, as well as qualitative determination of glyphosate in two types of Neretva valley soils are presented. The procedure consists of ultrasonic extraction, separation by thin-layer chromatography using silanized silica as stationary phase and finally of videodensitometric quantification. From the soil A containing 1.9 % of organic matter atrazine and fenarimol were extracted with acetonitrile, and acetone was used for pesticides extraction from soil B containing 4.3 % of organic matter. From both of soils glyphosate was extracted using 0.1M KH2PO4 solution. Thin layer chromatographic separation was performed on silanized silica thin layer as a sorbent and following solvent systems: acetone/water (6:4, v/v) for atrazine and fenarimol separation, and ethanol/water/acetic acid (6:3.5:0.5, v/v) for glyphosate. Atrazine and fenarimol were detected under UV light ( =254 nm), and glyphosate was detected by spraying with 0.3% ninhydrine solution. Quantification was performed using sensitive color CCD camera. Limits of detection are: atrazine: 0.060 mg mL-1 and fenarimol: 0.067 mg mL-1. Limits of quantification are: atrazine: 0.080 mg mL-1 and fenarimol: 0.089 mg mL-1.
