High-resolution kaon spectrometer (HKS) for medium-heavy Mass lambda-hypernuclesu structure studies at the Jlab (E01 - 011 Collaboration)
The first hypernuclear experiment of the electroproduction of lambda– hypernuclei by the (e, e’ K+) reaction was successfully carried out in 2000 at the Jlab by the HNSS Collaboration. Data analysis of the 12Blambda hypernucleus was resulted in its binding energy with the s-lambda and p-lambda states clearly identified in the spectrum, according to the energy resolution of =750 keV (FWHM) of the measurements. Experimental values are in a good agreement with the most up-to-date theoretical predictions. At present, a new experimental program is conducting towards the medium– heavy mass lambda- hypernuclei by the E01– 011 Collaboration (Jlab, Hall C). According to the comprehensive simulations a new “ tilt method” for the scattered electron beam was investigated. A High Resolution large-solid angle Kaon Spectrometer (HKS) as the new 2nd generation hypernuclear spectrometer was designed. The best resolution of around 300 keV (FWHM) by the new HKS set-up will be achieved as an appropriate tool for exploring medium– heavy mass hypernuclear region. Both spectrometer arms, including all magnets and detectors, are currently under overall test and calibrations at the Jlab to be ready for the spectroscopic studies of the medium-heavy mass lambda hypernuclei by the spring of 2005.
