Frequency Response of a Mechanical System with Multiple Clearances Using the Piecewise Full Decoupling Method and the Time Finite Element Method
The frequency response of a three-degree-of-freedom (3-DOF) semi-definite system with multiple clearances is analyzed using the piecewise full decoupling method and the finite element in time method. The piecewise full decoupling method is a new numerical procedure for solving piecewise linear equations of motion. The method is based on the piecing linear equations of motion defined in local linear parts. In this paper, the finite element in time method is further extended for predicting the steady state response of vibrating systems with multiple clearances. Close agreement is found between the obtained frequency responses resulting from both approaches.
