Numerical Modelling of Beam Wave Equation
Wave equation for beams describes many important phenomena like load moving over a beam. Solution of the wave equation enables us to obtain insight into dynamical influence of a moving load and numerical solution permits us to easily change boundary conditions, load characteristics and damping. Realistic modelling of structures requires introduction of springs and dashpots to simulate various supports and numerical solution is the only way of including all of the above characteristics into practical model. Average acceleration method has been employed since direct use of finite differences had shown as being practically unusable. On the basis of the theory 2-D finite element numerical model has been made and numerical results have been compared with some analytical solutions. Also comparisons have been made with on site measurements of bridges. Good agreement has been obtained which gives us confidence in numerical model. Further expansion and development is under way.
