Analysis of Phebus FPT1 Experiment with RELAP5/SCDAPSIM Computer Code

The thermal-hydraulic and severe accident analysis code RELAP5/SCDAPSIM was used in the calculation of the Phebus FPT1 in-pile experiment. This experiment, carried out on 26 July 1996 in the Phebus facility, Cadarache, France, was chosen as the basis for the OECD International Standard Problem (ISP-46) exercise. The objective of ISP-46 was to assess the capability of computer codes to model in an integrated way the physical processes taking place during a severe accident in a pressurised water reactor, from the initial stages of core degradation to the release and behaviour of fission products in the containment. The ISP was an open exercise, that is, all the relevant experimental results were available to the participants from the start.
