Tourism development under new conditions - towards sustainable tourism development
The concept of sustainable development promotes growth and development that is under the control in a way that resources are rationally used and protected as much as possible. Sustainable development is analyzed according to the three issues which are in strong relationship: (a) environment has to be evaluated as an integral part of the economic process, environment should not be considered as a free good ; (b) it is necessary to take care about equality, because the transition countries today try to find a way to achieve a living standard of western developed countries, and very often the implications are not taken in consideration in time ; (c) sustainable development concept imposes a new, different goals to society, business companies and individuals, which should be harmonizee with the future needs of the mankind. The paper analyses the problem of tourism management in transition period of Croatia, considering the circumstances in the environment and needs to develop tourism according to the principles of sustainability and to adapt Croatian tourism product to market demand.
