Indicators of Sustainability in Tourism
Sustainable development is a one of the most accepted, but at the same time and the most controversy approach. We can consider sustainability as a final goal, which in practice will most probably never be achived completely, but it is something that we have to aspire for. Indicators are necessary for monitoring the implementation of sustainable tourism development. The main purpose of the indicators is to warn clearly and in time if a significant change of some values appears, so that the corrective measures can be taken. The main prerequisite for deining a set on indicators which will be relevant for tourism managers is to be familiar with the main characteristics and problems on the area which is in focus. Indicators help tourism managers to know where they are, which way to go and how far are they from the goal.
