Knowledge Representation Schemes in Computer Vision Systems

Computer vision systems require a large amount of knowledge and some mechanisms for manipulating this knowledge in order to create solutions of complex problems of scene interpretations. This paper gives a taxonomy and a brief overview of knowledge representation schemes which are used in computer vision systems. As an example, an original knowledge representation scheme called KRP, based on the Petri net theory, is described. The inheritance procedure for KRP is given and illustrated for the blocks world scene.
